Jacquie and Jake’s Wedding in Sutter, California
Jacquie and Jake held their wedding in Sutter Buttes in California at Jacquie’s family property Double J Ranch. Their wedding was tucked away perfectly into the trees in the Butte Mountain Range. Every moment of their wedding was filled with so much attention to detail and love.
About the Property
Jacquie shared a bit with us about her family property and why it is so important to her and Jake.
“The property is located in the Sutter Buttes, affectionately known as the "Smallest Mountain Range in the World." The Sutter Buttes is 100% privately owned so there is no public land for anyone to explore on. The house on our property was built in 1856 by the Moore family who homesteaded there until the 1950s when it was purchased by another family. This other family added an extension onto the original house. My family purchased the property, including the house and 40 acres, in 1992 and named it the "Double J Ranch" in honor of my sister and I, who both have names that start with the letter "J." As I was born in 1991, I have been going up to this property my entire life and it feels like a 2nd home to me. My family and I actually evacuated up there during the 1997 flood in Yuba City. This property was extremely special to my mom who frequently hiked up there. My mom passed away in 2015, so being married up here was a way of incorporating her into our wedding as well. When I first took my husband, Jake, up there when we started dating in 2016, he fell in love with the property as well. We take frequent hikes up there a few times a month so it is fun to go out there, even now, and get to revisit our wedding venue as much as we want.”
Wedding Inspiration
“My husband, Jake, and I were inspired by our shared love of nature. We both love being outdoors so that was a central focus: our wedding was outdoors, during a mild climate time of year (October), we incorporated lots of greenery into our florals and wood into the motif, and we even had succulents as one of our favors! I wanted the evening to feel like a whimsical night in the forest, as if everyone just stumbled upon this party in the woods.”
“We are really wanted to make sure our wedding was a mix of seriousness that acknowledged entering into a marriage as well as a fun celebration of our love. We personalized our vows, selected specific readings to have read in the ceremony, and had my aunt Ruby officiate. To make it fun, we really made sure everyone had a great time during the reception - we had "his" (moscow mule) and "her" (blackberry margarita) cocktails, a specific set-list for our DJ, and an amazingly fun photo booth (shout out to Penny & Co. which literally everyone loved).”
Most Memorable Wedding Day Moments
Jake shared with us that his favorite memories were “Being up on top of the mountain getting our couples portraits taken. Also, sharing our personalized vows with each other during the ceremony.”
Jacquie has many favorite memories and I don’t blame her! Their wedding was so beautiful I can see how it would be hard to pick just one favorite moment.
“There are so many wonderful memories from that whole day so I don't know if I could choose one specific moment. There were two glam trailers on the property for Jake and I to get ready in and while Jake was outside getting photos taken, I was watching him from my window and he looked so handsome! We had our two wonderful pugs, Stella and Chief, as the Maid of Honor and Best Man so it was fun to watch them with Jake as well.
“I loved the cake cutting and getting to smash the cake in Jake's face; our cake, from Ettores bakery, was more stunning than I could have imagined and tasted delicious. They designed it to look like wood grain, not only as we were incorporating nature elements into the wedding, but also because Jake is a woodworker so that was something special for us as well. I loved all of the dancing during the reception; our DJ, Steve, from Function 45, was incredible and I had a blast dancing with everyone.”
